The esteemed & scholarly gentleman from Chicago, [livejournal.com profile] mrdankelly desires that you listen up. I, parsimonious curmudgeon that I am, sponsored him yesterday. So what's your excuse? GO..RIGHT NOW! DO IT!

Hi all,

On October 18, 2008, starting at noon, I will commence to watch 24 hours of horror films in order to raise money for the Obama campaign. My tortured analogy? Nothing I'll watch during those 24 hours will be as horrifying as what's happened over the past eight years of the Bush administration. Will you sponsor me? It's easy. I'm off to a good start. A few of my blog readers have already contributed a total of $415 via the Obama fundraiser doohickey found below:

My goal is $1,000.

Calculate what you're willing to pay to keep me glued to that couch for a full day, rotting my brains out with monster, vampire, zombie, ghost, alien, and other spooky flicks, and then donate it to the campaign in a lump sum. You have my word that I'll only leave the couch to use the facilities, pay the pizza dude, and look after my son Nate's little emergencies. During the course of the marathon I'll also be blogging away happily (and no doubt blearily by 3 a.m.) at http://mrdankelly.livejournal.com.

Thanks! Please contribute! And remember to vote for Barack Obama!

Feel free to pass this around. And if you haven't already add [livejournal.com profile] mrdankelly to your FL...he's good for a chuckle or two a day and might even grow up to be famous someday. :)

iPayment Inc in Calabasas, CA is the LAST credit card merchant account provider on the face of the earth that any small business owner would want to do business with. Avoid them like the plague. They lie. They steal. They hang-up on you. Their call center staff is the most incompetent I have ever dealt with.

Can you get any stupider? Why would a company the size of Wells Fargo be willing to piss off a customer over $3.50? Is it worth loosing TWO customers over such a ridiculously small amount? This supervisor needs to be fired.

..ok..just teasing but really, come on..is 5.5 cents a day gonna kill you? If so then just watch the damn ads or go get a few million bucks for hardware, some data center space and payroll for a few dozen programmers and db geeks and start your own free journal site.

[livejournal.com profile] theferrett puts it much more eloquently than I can:

"And as someone who is a content provider, let me tell you that on the second point, you are big whiny babies.

Seriously. They're not saying you can't make free accounts. They're saying you have to watch ads. You still don't pay money, you just have to have ads there. And I don't know how you've managed to overlook something as large as the rest of the fucking Internet, but you may note that almost every other site in the whole world is supported by ads. This is how people make, you know, money. It's just the way things seem to be slanting these days, and I'm pretty sure that if website X isn't selling ads or your personal browsing information, they will be soon.

That's not evil. They're knocking themselves out to create something for people to enjoy. Why shouldn't they try to make a living off of that?

And you know what? Goddamn, folks, when you get as much for free, bitching about "OMG I HAVE TO WATCH AN AD" doesn't seem to be all that much of a sacrifice! You're not paying them. You're asking them to do something for you. And being such a selfish git that you expect them to get nothing in return except for the lovely brilliance of your posts strikes me as committing the traditional fanboy sin of "THE COMPANIES I LOVE SHOULD GO BANKRUPT TO MAKE ME HAPPY."

You can still make accounts for free, dammit! It won't cost you a dime. You just can't post for free and get everything you want."

On the Verizon Business FiOS invoice it states:

Questions about your bill? Call 1-888-244-4440
See end of bill for all other Verizon contact information.

(jump to the end of bill)

How to Reach Us

Verizon FiOS Internet
Visit: business.verizon.net
Call: 1-888-244-4440

Don't call 1-888-244-4440 as directed for business billing issues. Verzion delibertly publishes the wrong number to shift traffic away from the REAL Business Billing Line for Texas: 1-800-483-5700.

If you dial the first number you will wait on hold for 45 minutes to only be told by a rep who can barely speak English that she only supprts DSL and that you will need to call the FiOS Department.

The second line has a hold time of about 5 minutes.

Total Wasted Time: 1 hour 10 Minutes

I wonder if Verizon has a special Chief Pissoff Customers executive? I'm guessing they do because he/she is doing an EXCELLENT job!

Springlike weather expected this weekend 9:16 AM CT

10:15 AM CST on Thursday, January 3, 2008

From Staff Reports

It may be cold outside today, but prepare to wear shorts this weekend.

The National Weather Service was predicting high temperatures in the 70s beginning Saturday and lasting until at least Monday.

But for now, North Texans are going to have to brave the cold.

On Thursday, the low temperature dipped to 26 degrees at Dallas/Fort Worth International Airport, said Alan Moller, a weather service meteorologist. The lowest temperature of the season – 23 degrees – was recorded on Wednesday

Firefox with my crapload of extensions/plugins is hosed. The address bar has serious issues. Sometimes the URL of the current tab doesn't even appear and other times it does but with the favicon of the previous tab's url. Strangely, Google is not letting me find anyone else on the planet who's having the same problem.

Ya know I'm all for forgiving people on LJ for being pigheaded or otherwise mentally disadvantaged but when they make no attempt to change it's hard to do so. How's this for some nice revisionist history in regards to the current moderator of [livejournal.com profile] ljdemocrats starting a thread about banning [livejournal.com profile] mrbogey

[livejournal.com profile] rpeate says "During my tenure, I'd say about three or four persons suggested it. A minority, but a LOUD one."

Oh come on Robert! Three or four? Really? Is your memory that bad? Try a dozen or more. I have the archives.

On a side note that community is a shadow of what it used to be.

Happy fortysomething Birthday to Houston Sister #2 who hasn't spoken to me since 2001. I would send you something like I used to but I don't have your address and I don't know your 2nd husband's name since you never told me you got married. Have a good one. Say hello to your mother and His Most Holy Imenseness, High Lord and Chief Grand Poobah of Memphis, Step-GrandPaw and Keeper of the Most Holy Inheritance Codicil.

If you thought the Japanese made some freaky flicks you need to see what the Koreans can cook up.
Park Chan Wook's "Boksuneun naui geot" (Sympathy for Mr. Vengeance) is a good start.
I keep watching this every time it shows up..usually on Sundance or IFC. So throw some panchan on the coffee table and settle in and watch this masterpiece.

In Seoul, the deaf and dumb worker Ryu is very attached to his sister, who needs a transplantation of kidney. He tries to donate his own kidney to his sister, but his blood B type is not compatible with her. When Ryu is fired from Ilshin Electronics, he meets illegal dealers of organs and the criminals propose Ryu's kidney plus ten millions Won per a kidney suitable for his sister. Ryu accepts the trade, but he does not have money to pay for the surgery. His anarchist revolutionary girlfriend Cha Young-mi convinces him to kidnap Yossun, the daughter of his former employer Park, who owns Ilshin Electronics. However, a tragedy happens, generating revenge and a series of acts of violence.
